Police arrested a man from Benapole in Sharsha upazila of Jashore on Saturday on allegation of raping four schoolgirls and trying to rape two others in the district town, reports news agency UNB.
The arrested is Aminur Rahman, 42, son of a certain Hanef of Ratanpur village in Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira.
Aminur used to work as a caretaker at the house of a certain Ehsanul Haque Setu in Kharki of the district town.
Acting on tip off, a police team conducted a drive in bordering Gatipara area at noon and arrested Aminur who was trying to flee to India, said Apurba Hasan, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station.
He will be produced before the court on Sunday, the OC said.
Police took the initiative as a case was filed by one of the victims’ sister with the police station on 1 May.
The case statement said Aminur took the six girls at his employer’s house at different times from January last and raped four of them.
He also tried to rape the two other girls but released them as they raised alarm.
In the latest incident, Aminur took a girl to the house around 3:30pm on 24 April and raped her there. The matter came to the fore on the day.
Medical tests on the four ‘rape’ victims were carried out at Jashore 250-bed Hospital on Thursday. All of the six girls testified before a court.
