UN military exercise ‘Shanti Doot-4’ begins Monday

24 February 2018, Nirapad News: A multinational exercise on United Nations Peacekeeping Operations named ‘Exercise: Shanti Doot-4’ will be held at Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operation Training (BIPSOT) of Rajendrapur Cantonment from Monday.

The event will be jointly organised by Bangladesh Army and the United States Pacific Command (USPACOM) under the Global Peace Operations Initiative (lGPOl) Program and it will end on March 12, BIPSOT Chief Instructor Brig General Tofael Ahmed said, briefing reporters at the Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) office at Dhaka Cantonment here this morning.

Security Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister Major General (Retired) Tarique Ahmed Siddique will formally open the exercise while US Ambassador Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat is scheduled to be present.

About 1,319 participants from host Bangladesh and 21 other countries across the globe, including Australia, Benin, Bosnia Herzegovina, Cambodia, Canada, Fiji, Ghana, Great Britain, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malawi, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Peru, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, USA and Vietnam will participate in the program. The aim of the ‘Shanti Doot-4’ is to ensure tactical proficiency and technical competence of leaders and soldiers for supporting a unit’s Mission Essential Tasks List in UN peacekeeping mission.

The goals and objectives of ‘Shanti Doot-4′ are to increase the participants’ interoperability and peacekeeping skills prior to the deployment in UN missions.

‘Shanti Doot-4’ is focused on preparing militaries from many countries to participate in United Nations peacekeeping missions around the world.

The exercise is featured with three broad aspects – Field Training Event (FTE), Staff Training Event (STE) and ‘Critical Enabler Capability Enhancement (2CE).
