Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said action should be taken against Dainik Sangram for publishing a report that termed executed war criminal Abdul Quader Molla a “martyr”.
“I talked to the home minister in this regard. Steps should be taken against them. Those evil forces which are still spreading hatred of communalism will be uprooted,” he told journalists after paying homage to the martyrs at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur here.
Later, Quader along with party leaders went to Rayer Bazar Martyred Intellectuals Memorial and paid homage to the martyrs on the occasion of Martyred Intellectuals Day.
Talking to reporters on the occasion, he said diplomatic efforts have been strengthened further to bring back Chowdhury Moinuddin and Ashrafuzzaman Khan, death-row convicts and kingpins of killings of intelligentsia.
The minister said it has not been possible so far to bring back the fugitive killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as there are legal barriers in the countries where the killers stay fugitive.
He said the laws of those countries do not allow returning death-row convicts.
However, there is some progress in returning fugitives from the USA, he added.
Quader hoped the government will be able to bring back the fugitive killers of intellectuals.
About the list of martyred intellectuals, Quader said there is a list and examining it is underway to find whether there is any flaw in the list. There could be inclusion, correction and exclusion in the list, he added.
